Ideas for First Shoots

Work Record of First Shoot

In my first shoot for everyday activities I will photograph a stereotypical life of a girl. I want to have images that show negative and positive feelings because Bruce Davidson mainly shows negative feelings in his work. In this shoot I want to take pictures of a girl doing her makeup, doing her hair and acting like a normal teenage girl.

In my second shoot for everyday activities I will photograph a stereotypical life of a boy. I want to have images that show negative and positive feelings because Bruce Davidson mainly shows negative feelings in his work. In this shoot I want to take pictures of a boy playing his video games and wearing boxing gear looking intimidating.

In my third shoot for everyday activities I will photograph a stereotypical life of a woman. I want to have images that show negative and positive feelings because Bruce Davidson mainly shows negative feelings in his work. In this shoot I want to take pictures of a woman cooking, cleaning and looking after her family.

In my fourth shoot for everyday activities I will photograph a stereotypical life of a man. I want to have images that show negative and positive feelings because Bruce Davidson mainly shows negative feelings in his work. In this shoot I want to take pictures of a man working, shaving, looking strong and important.

In my fifth shoot for everyday activities I will photograph the people I have used in the stereotypical shoots and take images of each person in their clothes. I want to include the different outfits that they wear doing their everyday activities. For example, school clothes, work clothes and going out clothes.

Discussion of Exam Paper

Discussion of Exam Paper

Everyday Activities

Social change refers to any significant alteration over time in behavior patterns and cultural values and norms.

This image shows social change because it shows people fighting for their rights. In this instance it is race rights. We know this is representing social change because as time progressed on we know that race rights are much more equal today than they were before.

Family life is defined as the routine interactions and activities that a family have together. When members of a family enjoy each other's company and spend a lot of time doing things together, this is an example of a good family life.

Urban life is a catchall phrase to describe life in a major city.

Contextual Material means the shots (visual effects or otherwise) immediately preceding and following a particular effect in the Work to Be Considered.

Robert Doisneau

Robert Doisneau was a French photographer. In the 1930s he used a Leica on the streets of Paris. He was a champion of humanist photography and with Henri Cartier-Bresson a pioneer of photojournalism. He observed social change and we can see this by the photos that I have taken because he produces photos of old times which we can compare to today. The girl in the first image is holding an image of where she is standing from time ago which represents social change because we can see the difference in the two, for example there are now cars and there is a lack of people. In my opinion Doisneau is representing the bad aspects of social change, he uses his images to show us that it was better before.

Richard Billingham

Richard Billingham is an English photographer and artist who is best known for his photobook Ray's A Laugh which documents the life of his alcoholic father Ray, and obese, heavily tattooed mother, Liz. He observed family life and more importantly his own family life. Although I am not a big fan of these images I think they have deep meaning because he is showing how he lives and what he had to experience. In these images we can see that he is showing us the bad aspects of his family life. He lets us into his life by showing us what happens behind closed doors in his house. From these images we can tell his family life was bad because in the pictures we can see his mum almost hitting his father and the lack of cleanliness in his home.

Bruce Davidson

Bruce Davidson is an American photographer. He has been a member of the Magnum Photos agency since 1958. His photographs, notably those taken in Harlem, New York City, have been widely exhibited and published. He recorded aspects of urban life as we can tell from his selection of photos. Davidson produces very different images as he explores equal rights and lives of people in the urban cities. In my opinion I think his images have very deep meaning because he explores peoples rights, for example from the images I have chosen we can see he has photographed a protest that shows black people's rights, I think this image is very powerful. Not only do his images on equal rights have an effect on us but also his photographs of train stations, they also interest us.

Initial Ideas Mind Map

Everyday Activities

I liked this topic because I feel like I can express my ideas and feelings through this topic well as it covers many ideas that I can express. Everyday activities is a broad subject so a lot of ideas will fit into it which makes it an easier topic to express my ideas into. Along with this topic I also looked at the photographer Bruce Davidson, he displays equal rights along with urban life. I am attracted to this  photographer because I like the messages that he portrays in his photographs as he sends a political  message throughout his work. Along the ideas of equal rights I would like to attempt to take images of a protest in London because I believe that this will spread this topic as it links to people standing up for their everyday activities, allowing them to live their lives. Also, I would like to go down the route of activities of stereotypical men and women and show the differences between their lives, this can also be linked to the equal rights of women. I think I would enjoy this topic because it gives me a chance to express all my ideas as it doesn't limit me to one.

Self-Identity
If I was to take my ideas down the self-identity topic I would be able to express myself rather than my ideas. I like the idea of this topic because it seems easier for someone to express their own selfs rather than create their own ideas. By using someone else in the photographs to express myself is a good idea because you can express your real feelings and life without technically exposing yourself to the world. If I did pick this topic I would research the photographer Herbert Bayer because I like the way that he produces abstract pieces. I would link this into my work because I like abstract work because it has a deeper meaning rather than normal work.

Out of these two topics I am going to pick everyday activities because I like to spread my ideas that I have within this topic. I would pick this topic over self-identity because I found it harder to create my ideas linked to myself, I would find it harder to produce images linked to myself rather than my ideas. I think I have more ideas links to everyday activities so it would be smart to link use this topic in my work because I would find it easier to produce work linked to this topic.
