Image Bank

Everyday Activities Image Bank

I chose these 5 images of public transport because I like the effect each one gives. Public transport relates to everyday activities because most of us have to use it everyday. Including lots of people in the image or a small amount of people in the picture gives a good effect because it shows different environments of public transport. Each picture gives a different feel, for example the picture in the bottom left corner gives more of a depressing vibe whereas the one in the bottom right corner gives a happy bright vibe. I want to take picture of public transport in my work because I think I will capture the good aspects of it.

I have chosen these 5 images from Bruce Davidson's work because I like his work the most out of the three photographers in the question. I like his work of a New York subway and also his photographs of the New York gang. His images are not happy images, they are depressing and have a meaning which is what I would like to display in my work. I like how his images show negative feelings but we still want to explore his images further to tear down the meaning.

I have chosen these 5 images because they represent stereotypical women well. There are 2 images present from Martin Parr's photography as he represents a stereotypical older woman well in his photography. I like his pictures that I have included because although they are showing a stereotype the pictures are colourful and intriguing. Also, I included a picture from Dorothea Lange because she uses negative pictures to spread the stereotypical woman, in this case a stereotypical migrant woman. These pictures represent women well and help me decide what pictures I am going to take in my photo shoot.

I have chosen these 5 images because they represent stereotypical men well. In each of these images the men look intimidating and unapproachable which gives the impression that the men are strong and important. I used some images from Milton Moore who took images of men fishing which makes them look strong and the fact that no women can't be seen shows that women wouldn't really do this job. These images have mainly darker colours which helps me decide the colours that I should have in my photo shoot.

I have chosen these 5 images because they represented the brutality and passion that protests involve. I think the pictures have greater effect when they are in black and white because we tend to look at the darker and bolder colours that are in the image. In this instance the bolder and darker colours are show on the signs that people are holding, these signs stand out to us because we can tell what the protests are about by reading the signs. Protests have deep meanings because people are fighting for their lives and I think this is portrayed in these images. This helps with my work because it shows me how to express a deeper meaning.

I have chosen these 5 images by Robert Frank because he represents the lives of people in America who are not necessarily wealthy well. His images are also not bright and colourful which gives these images deeper meaning because the black and white displays a negative vibe. The era which he took his pictures in was around the time when people were just beginning to accept the black people, we can tell this because, in the picture where there are children and a black man on a bus, the children look slightly feared by the black man. Robert Frank's images influence mine because he documents peoples lives that are not wealthy, they were just normal people of the time.
