Shoot 2 Straight Images

Stereotypical life of a girl

I chose to take this image because I think it represents the stereotypical life of a girl well as we associate girls with painting her nails. Also, the colour of the nail polish fits in with the stereotype as we associate pink with girls and blue with boys. I like the focus of this image because it focuses in on the nail and the nail polish wand but it blurs out the rest of the hand and the nail polish bottle. I think it has more of an effect with the outer section of the image blurred because it helps the focus be drawn to the important parts of the image. I didn't use the flash in this image because I didn't want the harsh shadow to be created because I wanted a more subtle effect to this image as a stereotypical girl wouldn't be seen as bold and strong.

I chose to take this image because it represents the stereotype of a girl well as we associate girls with make-up and beauty. Also, the colour of the mascara wand fits in with the stereotype as we associate the colour pink with girls. I like the focus of the image because although the reflection in the mirror is blurry we can still see her face, I think it has a good effect because we focus more on her hand and the foreground of the image rather than the background. I did take other images in this pose that had the mirror in focus which also worked well. I think this worked better because we are looking at what she is doing which is linked with everyday activities.

I chose to take this image because it represents the stereotype of a girl as we associate younger girls inspiring to be like older girls/women. This associates with her wanting to be like a woman because the way she is standing and holding the bag makes her look grown up. I chose to have her smiling in this image because it shows us that stereotypical girls like having their photo taken and like to show off their belongings, in this case she is showing off her bag. I chose to take this image without the flash because I didn't want the bold and dark shadow on the wall behind her as this would have a more manly effect to the image. The brightness gives a more feminine tone to the image.

I chose to take this image because it shows the life of a stereotypical girl because we associate girls with talking on the phone with their friends and playing with their nails. I like this image because like the image before it makes her look grown up which also links to the fact that girls like to act and think they're women. Like the images before I chose to take this image without the flash because I wanted to avoid the dark and bold shadows. The fact that she is smiling in this image does take away the negative effect but although we see her smiling she still seems as though she is hiding something.

I chose to take this image because it shows the stereotype of a girl as we associate girls with being more sensitive than boys. Although this was taken while she was taking off her make-up, it seems as tho she is crying which adds to the negative effect of the image. I did take this image with the flash because it brightens her face and creates a darkness around her. I think the focus in the image gives a good effect because the focus is on the mirror rather than her. As we are focused on her reflection we can see what she is doing in more detail. The fact that she is looking in a mirror can also link to vanity which we also link to girls.
