Shoot 1 Work Record

Stereotypical life of a boy
In my first shoot I will document the stereotypical life of a boy. This shoot will be done by the 5th March.

Evaluation
In this shoot I managed to achieve the images that I wanted to show the stereotypical life of a boy. These images included him wearing his boxing gear looking intimidating and also him looking vulnerable when playing video games.

In the many images that I took I think this is one of the best ones I took because it is fully in focus and it represents the meaning that I had for this shoot well. When taking this image I fired the flash because I wanted to create a harsh shadow which I achieved, I wanted the harsh shadow because it represents an intimidating atmosphere in the image. Next time if I was going to improve on this image I would try and take the photograph without a flash to see the difference and show which one gives the best effect.

This is also one of my best images because it gives off a different effect than the image before was which is what I was aiming for. The picture with the boxing gear included shows strength and power but this photo shows weakness. When taking the image I took it without a flash because, unlike the other pictures I took, I wanted this photo to add an effect that he seems weak so I didn't want the harsh shadows that the flash produced. If I was going to improve this image I could take the images of different angles and focus in on his eyes to show how mesmerised he is by this game.

This is one of my not so good images. I took this image with the flash which I think is the reason why I don't like it because it makes a bold shadow behind him. In my other images I used the flash but this image doesn't work well with the flash because I wanted to make him seem weak and mesmerised by the game. The shadow doesn't work well with this idea because it represents strength. I did take this image without the flash and it looks a lot better. If I was going to further this image I could take it at different angles and maybe show the game that he is playing.

Progression
To progress the images I took I put them in Photoshop and edited them to create a better effect and give a deeper meaning to my images.

I edited all these images in the same way, by making them black and white. By making the images in this shoot black and white it gives a more negative effect to the picture which is what I was hoping for. I wanted to create images that are similar to those of Bruce Davidson's as he takes images not necessarily in black and white but he  created a negative effect throughout his pictures. I edited these images using the camera raw filter in Photoshop because it has more settings to play with to improve the image. For all the images I increased the clarity of the photo because it sharpens the image which adds boldness to the pictures. I made them darker to add a depressing effect on the pictures because the main message that I wanted to spread is that we shouldn't follow stereotypes and we should be our own person.

To progress further I am going to take my next shoot of the life of a stereotypical girl. As this shoot will be similar to this one the pictures will have the same negative effect. Next shoot I am going to experiment more with the flash by taking some pictures with the flash and some without it. Also, in my next shoot I will take images from different angles so I have more of a selection of images to chose from.
